The Board of Directors of the Turkey River Recreational Corridor (TRRC) is excited to announce its new partnership with Northeast Iowa RC&D. The TRRC is an organization developed to enhance the existing natural resource base of the Turkey River Corridor through the creation of land and water trails infrastructure and connecting the communities of Clermont, Elgin and Elkader in Fayette and Clayton counties. The TRRC is run by a 10 member board of directors with representatives from a variety of organizations including the county boards of supervisors, county conservation boards, members of the communities, and economic development.
The TRRC is pleased with its success in connecting two communities by a popular land trail. The long range goal however, is “connectivity” – making the TRRC the “backbone trail of Northeast Iowa,” connecting Minnesota trails through the TRRC to the Mississippi River Trail, the MRT.
The TRRC hosts several area events each year to get locals and tourists engaged in activities along the Turkey River each year. One of these activities, the Turkey River Safari will begin in May and run through September. The Safari is a self-guided adventure for families to explore points-of-interest in Fayette and Clayton County. The group also organizes the annual “TRI-P” event, a unique triathlon in which participants Pedal, Paddle, and Putt. This event is held mid-June and often in correlation with other larger community events. More event information and updates can be found at www.turkeyrivercorridor.com.
